Severity
Airborne Collision: Collision between aircraft while both aircraft are in the
air; or between aircraft and other objects in the air (excluding birds and wildlife).
Aircraft Flight: An undesired state of the aircraft characterized by
unintended deviations from parameters normally experienced during operations, which could
ultimately lead to uncontrolled impact with the terrain.
Runway Collision: A collision between an aircraft and another object (another
aircraft, vehicles, etc.) or a person that occurs on a runway of an aerodrome or another
predetermined landing area. It does not include collisions with birds or wildlife.
Excursion: Occurrence when an aircraft departs the runway or movement area of
an aerodrome or landing surface of any other previously designated landing area without taking
off. This includes high-impact vertical landings for helicopters or vertical take-off and
landing aircraft, as well as balloons or airships.
Fire, Smoke, and Pressurization: An event involving cases of fire, smoke,
emissions, or pressurization situations that may become incompatible with human life. It
includes events involving fire, smoke, or emissions affecting any part of an aircraft, in-flight
or on the ground, which are not the result of impacts or malicious acts.
Ground Damage: Aircraft damage induced by aircraft operations on any land area
other than a previously designated runway or landing area, as well as damage during maintenance.
Airborne Obstacle Collision: Collision between an airborne aircraft and
obstacles rising from the surface of the earth. Obstacles include tall buildings, trees, power
lines, telegraph wires, antennas, and tethered objects.
Terrain Collision: An event in which an airborne aircraft impacts the terrain,
with no indication that the flight crew was unable to control the aircraft. This includes cases
where the flight crew is affected by visual illusions or a degraded visual environment.
Other Injuries: An event where fatal or non-fatal injuries have been caused
that cannot be attributed to any other key risk area.
Security: An act of unlawful interference against civil aviation. It includes
all incidents and violations related to surveillance and protection, access control, inspection,
security control implementation, and any other acts intended to cause malicious or senseless
destruction of aircraft and properties, endangering or resulting in unlawful interference with
civil aviation and its facilities. It includes events of physical and cyber security.
